I had a bit of a peripatetic childhood, even though my father was not in the services. Born in London, I emigrated to Canada when I was two years old, returning to the Home Counties some 6 years later. Then it was off to Brussels for a year, where I went to a French-speaking school, then splitting my time between boarding school in England and holidays in Beirut.
Following school, I went to Scotland where I met my husband. We became pub and hotel managers, raised two children and a large St. Bernard dog, and then I went to University as a mature student. Moving back to East Anglia, I worked for BT for 22 years as a project manager, and then for the NHS for 7 years before retiring.
My husband and I moved to France in 2017, just 3 weeks after I retired. We found the house we wanted, with the peace and tranquillity that we wanted, so that our hens and cats could roam freely and safely. However, thanks to the wonders of the internet and online banking, I still retain the roles of Treasurer and Secretary of The Friends of West Suffolk Hospital, which I joined in 2009.
